Lesson
Teach kids about healthy snack choices.
The lessons in this unit present the four parts of fit—recharge, mood, food, and move—and how they connect and support a healthy lifestyle. Students will learn that having a fit mindset is about having enough energy and the motivation to make healthy nutrition and physical activity choices. Encourage healthy choices throughout the day by downloading the Healthy Choice Posters and the ABCs of a Healthy Me for your classroom or hallway!
Ask students to name their favorite snack foods. Make a list and put a 😊 by the healthy choices. If a student names a snack food that is not healthy, let them know that the food is okay to eat once in a while, but it's not a good idea to eat it for every snack, every day.

Food is Fuel
Ask students to identify the fit snack choice as you progress through the slides. Refer to the Eat More, Eat Some, Eat Less food chart if needed.
Explain that fruits, vegetables, milk, and water are some of the best fuels for their bodies. These foods make great snack choices!

Think Your Snack
Students plan a nutritious snack using the My Healthy Snack printable.
Today we learned why what you eat and drink for a snack is important. Remember to use a stoplight to help you think about your snack choices. Eat more green-light foods, eat some yellow-light foods, and eat less red-light foods!
Next, we will learn about choices we can make to recharge our energy.
