Activity Purpose

Kids talk about how being a part of fitClub is helping them learn more about healthy lifestyle choices while playing games and having fun!

Objectives

  • Recall the purpose, guidelines, and expectations of fitClub.
  • Recognize the key concepts of fit:
    •  fit has four parts: recharge, mood, food, and move.
    • Recharge and mood are influencers of your food and move choices throughout the day.
    • Food choices fuel your body and your brain.
    • Move is physical activity. Moving boosts your body and your brain.

Preparation

  • Prepare snacks prior to session. Have a music player and all session materials and resources ready.
  • Talk Time: Gather kids to the center of the activity space to sit and stretch. Be sure they are a safe distance (arm’s length) apart.
  • Activity: Have hand sanitizer and garbage bags ready for snack clean up.
  • Wrap Up: Kids sit in a circle.

Talk Time

Introduction

Welcome back to fitClub!

Q: Who can remind our group of what we did at our last session?
A: If kids only talk about the games they played, guide them to recall that they are learning that fit is NOT just about eating right and exercising; it's about making many kinds of healthy choices  throughout your day. Additional key ideas:

  • fit has 4 parts: recharge, mood, food, and move.
  • Your energy (recharge) and your motivation (mood) influence your choices.
  • Food is about making healthy food and beverage choices to fuel your body and brain.
  • Move is about making the choice to move your body. Moving strengthens your body and lights up your brain!

Q: Who wants to share some of the fit choices they made since our last session?
A: Recognize students for their healthy choices with comments that also recognize the parts of fit. Instead of responding with simply "good job," give encouraging responses, for example:

  • "Wow, your energy is great since you are getting enough sleep."
  • "Your body is getting a lot of great nutrition from your food choices."
  • "I can tell you are really thinking about your feelings and emotions."
  • "You remembered that being fit is about having enough energy and the motivation to make healthy nutrition and physical activity choices."

During this session we are going to do activities to help us learn more about the connection between recharge and the other parts of fit.
